Please please please help me get the word out about this. I’m afraid everyone is ignoring our emails. We’ve sent literally thousands and have <10 people enrolled. For reference, we need several hundred. So if you’re not a PI in one of these programs but know someone who is, pls send them this 🙏🙏🙏

Despite our grant being terminated, we are doing what we can with modest bridge funding. If you are a PI of a K24, TL1, R25, R38, or T32, you’re eligible! To learn more or enroll, check out our site!

Here’s some feedback from our last cohort:

I remember maybe 2-3 years ago there was a big social media tempest over nurses insisting they be called “scientists.” Not research coordinators or anything, just regular providers. I don’t get the impulse. We do different things! Some do both, but not that many.

*Looks at my Aims page* I can beat that.

These guys *desperately* need cognitive scientists as a part of these projects.

Demis Hassabis, the chief executive of Google DeepMind, says that “we’re quite close” to human-level artificial intelligence. After that, all bets are off. nyti.ms/45lteBF
A quote from Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, on the "Herd Fork" podcast: "I think its really magical, actually, when people use it for the first time and they realize that actually A.I. is capable already today of doing much more than what they thought."

Just saw a graduate fellowship that specifies an "*unmarried* female graduate student."
What????

On what do you base that judgment? I've talked with NIH employees. I've seen what the admin is trying to do, myself and from others. I know they are fascists, and fascists have a long and documented history of failure and destruction. Why so confident?
johnstreicher.bsky.social
I've been thinking a lot about the question of replication rates. Many people claim that ~50% replication rates represent a "crisis" but I've never seen that judgment justified (or even explained). What should the rate be? Why should be expect that rate? Why SHOULDN'T it be 50%?

I still don’t understand what point you are trying to make and what it has to do with the post you first responded to.
johnstreicher.bsky.social
Not following your point Alex. It doesn’t matter if the fascists make up 1% or 99% of the population. Their plans are the same either way. Resist or lie down and die, your choice.
johnstreicher.bsky.social
Science won’t exist if the fascists win. So perhaps the HHMI should defend their own purpose and future by helping us defeat the fascists.

Come the fuck ON, @hhmi.org! You have money and you have lawyers.

As a former @hhmi.org Gilliam fellow, I’m deeply disappointed to see HHMI cancel the Hanna Gray this year and pause all competitions.

@leslievosshall.bsky.social, Erin O’Shea — this was a moment to lead with vision, not retreat.

Also some very talkative people have become notably silent. Since 1/20/25 and still going.
johnstreicher.bsky.social
Just breathtaking cowardice. Which is basically what I’ve come to expect from most institutions. Although this is particularly galling coming from a group of people that styled themselves leaders in the fight to improve science.

Having a hard time processing this. HHMI is pausing all competitions. Very demoralizing for early career scientists like me @hhmi.org

She was 9 weeks pregnant. She died. The state of Georgia is making the doctors keep her alive to incubate the baby. She’s been dead for three months. This is REAL. this isn’t about what should or should not be done. This is about having a VOICE. This is about having a CHOICE.
