When I say notorious, I mean they use this tactic so consistently that it is entirely predictable.

If the regime appears to reverse itself in the wake of pushback, it would be insane to believe they won't find some way to do it when the heat dies down.

Trump is an over-the-top villain.

In many ways he's more over-the-top than comic book villains. Like the other wealthy New Yorker (with impossibly absurd hair) that convinced America he was its savior. Turning real heroes into villains, villains into "heroes," and winning the information war:

Also one of the earlier ways Deadpool found to pick a full-on drag-out fight with Wolverine when he wasn't in the mood: digging at Wolverine's over-protective dad instincts with Kitty.

Part of his "therapy" with Dr. Bong.

One of the wildest rides I had with Bill Sienkiewicz art, was with Elektra: Assassin (series of 8) written by Frank Miller. I was tracking down another cyborg's origins (John Garrett) and found this over-the-top antisemitic and sexist psychopath in this madness. marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Elektra...

New Mutants had one of the other more notorious problematic "race swaps" with two white people turned into Native Americans. Tom Corsi and Sharon Friedlander got transformed by Demon Bear in #20:

My obsession is tracking Deathlok after his introduction capped off the first Astonishing Tales run from 1974-1976.

Dragged from the dystopian 1990s into a plot on Jimmy Carter... only to end up reprogrammed in some Roxxon experiment before being stopped / saved by Cap:

It even gets into standard-issue Orwellian defense of "real" democracy from actual proponents of democratic institutions and values.

The doublethink is ripped straight out of 1984 on that one. From the "republic, not a democracy" and "two wolves and a sheep" anti-democracy contingent:

Sounds familiar... in fact, it sounds straight out of a 1922 Klan advertisement:

The local news has been some of the most irresponsible I've seen here in the Midwest. From far-right editors who think themselves "objective," to normalizing /sane-washing the extremism sweeping their communities all over again.

Just like they did with the second Klan movement a century ago.

In many ways they've gone more Orwellian than Orwell's nightmares.

Although sometimes they stick to the classics. e.g. when the new anti-democratic leader and his pet oligarch were claiming to be the "true" defenders of democracy from the Oval Office.

In true Orwellian doublethink, it's the only thing that can save "real" Democracy" and "real" liberty.

For folks who've read 1984 or even Mussolini's "Doctrine of Fascism."
December 5, 2025 at 8:24 PM
jfc... it reads like the NS-NSS. A lot of these arguments, from the hysteria about ethnic purity, nationalist spirit, and the existential threat to Western Civilization are right out of fascist arguments in the 1920s.
