And she finished 10th in the overall race, an incredible accomplishment. Top 10 in a world major mathon is remarkable for any athlete.

No one remembers 10th place most races. Separation of the women's race is what makes it special. Protecting that hard fought recognition is important.

Women and women's competition are not any of those things you portray.

Ruth Chepngetich ran the 2024 Chicago Marathon in a jaw dropping world record. Almost 2 min faster than the previous WR, and ~8 min faster than 2nd.

The performances don't qualify as the same range. In a highly competitive field there is a significant difference between qualifying and medaling. Many athletes qualify for regional, university, or professional championships, but are a long way from medaling.

The studies Recruitment and Participant Eligibility is a little concerning. They recruited people on social media, and there is no matching of athletic performance. Physical training at least 3 times a week is not a great measure of athlete ability.

The magnitude of the scale is not as large as first indicated, but the point still is valid. Lia Thomas never qualified as a male for the NCAA championships in 2017-2019 seasons pre transition, and in the 2021-2022 season was a national championship caliber athlete.
March 28, 2025 at 12:01 AM
Thomas finished outside the top 500 in the 200 FR SCY in 2018 and 2019 and was 57th in the 1650 FR SCY in 2018 and 38th in 2019.

Thank you for sharing the resource. I have never used USA swimming before. The times I had listed before are correct, but the places are not. Lia Thomas ranked 123rd in 2018 in the 500 FR SCY and 72nd in 2019. data.usaswimming.org/datahub/usas...

I appreciate you considering my arguments and taking time to explain yours. I'm not an AI model, but I'll take that as a complement.

If participation is the objective the men or open category is available to a wide population.

If competition is the objective, in an elite population 10% performance difference is massive.

Those other skills of coordination, speed, jumping, shot making, etc. are all also done at a high level.

The disparity between male to female world records in track and field are around 10-12%. That is huge. No other variation besides gender, and testosterone results in this difference.
March 27, 2025 at 8:11 PM
This is a strawman argument.
There are many individual variations of 1-2% such as height in the NBA. Being 2m or taller is the entry to be involved (unless you are Muggsy Bogues and have a vertical that is out of this world). But just being+2m tall does not guarantee the skills to be successful.

I am familiar with the colloquialism, but the implication only men go 'beast mode' in competition while women do not is not accurate and undermines you position of a high view of women's sport.
March 27, 2025 at 7:42 PM
What is "beast mode"? Are you implying women's competition isn't fierce?

The disparity in facilities in 2021 was shameful by the NCAA. But the women's NCAA tournament is not when athletes do there strenuous training; They are working to maintain off seasons and early season work.

The segment referenced this.

"Now, as women reach high school and college, strength and conditioning coaches are helping decrease the risk of injury."
March 27, 2025 at 7:27 PM
Is the argument Thomas was slower due to changing teams and received lower quality strength work?

Penn has the same coach for both teams and I can assure you they do the same workload between the two programs, that is what coaches do. They are pushing athletes to be the best and train like it.

5) It is the duty of sport officials to maintain a protection of that classification.

How officials reach their conclusions is certainly open for debate, but they do need to prioritize health and fairness.
March 27, 2025 at 6:11 PM
1) There is male advantage before puberty as evidenced by age group records in a variety of sports.
2) Male advantages increase post puberty.
3) That advantage is due largely to the effects of testosterone.
4) Women's sport exists to provide a protected class so that results are meaningful.

We have seen examples like Lia Thomas who was ranked in the mid 500's in male categories become a top female category competitor. The performances were slower, but not in line with pre transition percentile ranks.
