You've all answered my questions. Soothed by imposter syndrome. Supported me when I feel like I needed it most. And it feels like sometimes you let me take over the chat. #kidlitchat

Well, I’m not going to lie that meeting a lot of you through #kidlitchat is something I’m thankful for.

Dang it! Missed #kidlitchat again! Sorry guys!

Finished UPSTAIRS DELICATESSEN by @dwightgarner.bsky.social. Never has a book introduced me to so many books to read or meals to try in my life. Added at least a dozen new cookbooks to my TBR and at least twice as many other books to read. Great book. Garner's a great writer and a kindred spirit.

A bunch of the boys in class were debating if I could beat them in a fight. They said I could. I haven’t felt this good about myself in a while.

I major league suffer from imposter syndrome in professional environments. Nothing lays my personal perceived inadequacies bare than when I attend professional learning events as a teacher (and as a writer!).

Good God, I forgot how good Fahrenheit 451 is.

Does anyone plan your entire series or just have a vague idea of what you have in mind? Or do you not think about it. #kidlitchat

I'm a big fan of the Matt Stone/Trey Parker "therefore/but" rule. #kidlitchat

If you follow me you know (and I know that I've mentioned it here) that I'm OBSESSED with the "kids on bikes" trope/genre. There's a great article on NPR that broke it down. I use it as a planning tool when starting a story. #kidlitchat

The last two MG things I wrote, I really stuck to STC and it helped a great deal. #kidlitchat

I was a huge Hero's Journey guy for a while, but it didn't work for me. #kidlitchat
November 19, 2025 at 2:10 AM
I remember the person that recommended it to me said that it would "change my life" and while I didn't exactly do that, it certainly helped me figure out how to plot. #kidlichat

I'm not going to lie, it helped me focus my writing. I meandered SO much back in the say. #kidlitchat

I am Save The Cat-ish when it comes to structure. Someone on the other place recommended the original book to me and I fell in love with it. #kidlitchat
TOPIC: How do you come up with your story's structure? Are you a Save the Cat person? A hero's journey lover? Do you follow a natural rhythm, have another template or not even think about it? Discuss away! #kidlitchat

L&O:SVU hitting the romantasy trend?

Sometimes I hear an author on a podcast, especially on their own podcast, and wonder if they realize just how conceited and self-important they sound.

My love of the “kids on bikes” trope/genre, my own neighborhood growing up and Bob’s Burgers. #FiFRevPit
From horror to fantasy to contemporary, setting is important, and can often become its own character. What inspired the setting for your story? #FiFRevPit #writersky #writingcommunity #writersofbluesky

Holy Christ, I messed up my days and missed #kidlitchat last night. To be fair I was out all day visiting a college campus with my daughter and got confused! Bonus is that I thought tomorrow was Wednesday! So I’m a day ahead!

I just read a review of @rebstead.bsky.social new book The Experiment and now it's moved up my queue. More books about male friendship please!
November 12, 2025 at 4:41 AM
I'll be there! So should you!
Why not spend an hour talking #kidlit here on Bluesky? Why not make that hour be today at 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific when we have #kidlitchat (like we do every Tuesday)? Good plan! And I hope to see you then….

I'm reading The Upstairs Delicatessin by @dwightgarner.bsky.social and loving it, especially all the writers I have to Google now.

I don’t know what’s going on tonight, but SyFy is running a banger of a Twilight Zone marathon tonight. I’m recording a bunch of episodes.

I've left messages with @schumer.senate.gov's offices in Syracuse and DC. He needs to resign as leader of the Senate Democrats immediately. He is an embarrassing, feckless and spineless capitulator.
November 10, 2025 at 3:58 PM
Maybe it's the conspiracy theorist/fiction writer in me, but I have little doubt that Schumer endorsed this deal behind closed doors and the eight turncoats were carefully curated as people that we either retiring or not up for reelection anytime soon.
