Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu "Quotations from the History of Art", 1978. An icon of Moldovan art both from the Soviet time and independence; she had a very long life (1920-2021) and a remarkable range of work. More here: www.valentinarusuciobanu.com

1930 Watercolour "An Elegant Lady in a Cossack Hunting Costume with a Falcon" by Savely Abramovich Sorin (1878-1953). A Belarusian painter who studied in Odesa, St. Petersburg and after 1917 an itinerant life in Yalta, Tblisi, Paris and latterly New York. artbelarus.by/en/collectio...

Teaching is changing very, very rapidly yet in super-precarious late 2024 as this world is collapsing, I am very lucky still to be doing it in an art school- Gray's School of Art. Every year is different, has a different culture, brings different challenges. Images from our pre-degree show: (4/x)

I lived between Sarajevo and Skopje for three years and am lucky to be based between Aberdeen and these two fascinating cities. I am working on two books due out next year on Yugoslav Hauntologies, and Bosnian art, and am taking Gray's students to Skopje for a week in February 2025. (3/x)

I've curated a lot of shows from Aberdeen to Skopje in the last twenty years, and many points in between. First was a painting show of Edward Baird's at the Fleming Collection in London in 2004, most recent was a performance show of Maja Zećo's at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Zagreb (2/x)
