I don’t like to field the complaints from “users” (my kids) so I don’t usually do network maintenance or tinkering at home.

In that case I would hope reasonable people would be satisfied. But haters will always hate; if it wasn’t an age gap it would be religion differences or race differences or who knows what else they would gripe about.

I think people take issue when there is a perceived power imbalance, with the older partner assumed to be dictating everything in the relationship. Or if there is a case that looks like elder abuse that’s another issue.
