It might help provide the necessary perspective we often lack.
Our existence is extraordinary, and rare, and brief. A grasp of our impermanence can help provide necessary clarity, a better filter for knowing, for separating the wheat of truth from the chaff of deception. 6/7

If only we could collectively know, even a little bit, what privilege it is to be alive, to have the conscious capacity to grasp what it is to be, to understand our common ancestry w/ the universe, to know that we are briefly here then quickly gone... 5/7

Yet there I was, small and insignificant, catching a glimpse of what is truly exceptional about us humans – the privilege of bearing witness to the sublime, ancient wonder of existence. 4/7

It reminded me of the long history of our world and its indifference to the political posturing, mythical beliefs, and narcissistic narrow-mindedness of our species. Matilija was here long before us and will remain long after we’re gone. 3/7

The Matilija Wilderness is spectacularly beautiful and undisturbed, an ideal example of the durable beauty of California wild lands. Much of it burned in the 2017 Thomas Fire, though you’d never know it, this landscape evolved long ago to deal with such adversity. 2/7
