I thought they were trying to emulate all of those milestone liberalisations in the 1960s?

Conterfactual history I know - but I don't actually think we'd all be speaking German anyway even had Hitler won the war. The French were very much still speaking French in the summer of 1945.

Mine is even more clichéd I'm afraid. This bloke in 2016 gave me a lengthy anecdote about the NHS mishandling his hernia operation in order to contextualise his decision to vote Leave.

When I applied for some funding from DwP last year I got an automatic reply to say they aimed to evaluate my application within 30 weeks.

But these days they're so desperate for content and engagement that whoever wrote this decided to interview a couple of his mates and then attempt a full length obituary - and clearly didn't either think it through or have an editor look at it first. 2/2

I think it's more of an indictment of the current state of local journalism. 30 years ago it would have been 2 sentences at the edge of the page simply acknowledging that man of X name had been in an accident on X date and died as a result. 1/2

I used to wonder why Hope Station in the Peak District always seemed to be called Hope (Derbyshire) - turns out there's one in Flintshire too on the way to Wrexham.
