Just find a bus shelter anywhere in the UK with old chips strewn over the floor and the polystyrene box upturned on the metal bench.

Stare at it blankly with your hands on your hips and say "people in government just don't understand places like this do they?"

I like the ones where they ask people how much money they'd be prepared to pay to be a tiger for a day and so on.

And so you get headlines like "On average, people in the UK would pay £900 to meet a Woolly Mammoth"

I thought they were trying to emulate all of those milestone liberalisations in the 1960s?

Murder Act 1965, Sexual Offences Act 1967 and Abortion Act 1967 were all PMBs.

What's different now do you reckon?

Conterfactual history I know - but I don't actually think we'd all be speaking German anyway even had Hitler won the war. The French were very much still speaking French in the summer of 1945.

Mine is even more clichéd I'm afraid. This bloke in 2016 gave me a lengthy anecdote about the NHS mishandling his hernia operation in order to contextualise his decision to vote Leave.

I'm one of these that just goes "why can't theses weirdos have had this on a Thursday?"

Sorry for being a pedant here - but there isn't a deposit for local authority nominations.

I know what you mean though.

And Waterstones means by extension Blackwell's too. 😢 😭

Hey depths of Wikipedia! I was a fan of yours on Twitter years ago and it's only on seeing this that I'm away you're on here now. I'm so happy to be able to read your posts again and keep up the good work!

Unless you're a member of the al Saud family I suppose, in which case there's nothing much remarkable about it.

When I applied for some funding from DwP last year I got an automatic reply to say they aimed to evaluate my application within 30 weeks.

That's the one - just to think that the English elite back in the eighteenth century had already invented infinity pools.

To be fair, apparently not many Americans would understand the more accurate "noncy".

With respect to Jake Paul, Andrew Tate, and don't forget the Tommy Robinson interview, it hasn't been a bad weekend in all fairness.

No the Northerner scene in London does exist actually.

We seek each other out to exchange anecdotes about the price of stuff.

"£2.50 for a can of coke? blinking heck."

"I had to pay £25 for a hair cut last week."

"Ay 'av you heard about that pub that sells pints for £45 each?"

But these days they're so desperate for content and engagement that whoever wrote this decided to interview a couple of his mates and then attempt a full length obituary - and clearly didn't either think it through or have an editor look at it first. 2/2

I think it's more of an indictment of the current state of local journalism. 30 years ago it would have been 2 sentences at the edge of the page simply acknowledging that man of X name had been in an accident on X date and died as a result. 1/2

I used to wonder why Hope Station in the Peak District always seemed to be called Hope (Derbyshire) - turns out there's one in Flintshire too on the way to Wrexham.
