The first time I stayed in Dublin was in a B & B on Gardiner st with a plaque on it to say that he'd lived there which really excited me but meant nothing to my girfriend at the time. 'Look!' I said. Shrug, she did.

He didn't ever get much sleep was latterly in a lot of pain and his enthusiasms were repeatedly crushed by the monied classes so I think the odd grumpy comment is perfectly understandable
