As I find myself grappling with what to do, how to contribute positively, how to make sense of things, I'm drawn back to this book. Maybe it's time to read it again. #zinn #peoplepower

You're in #Antarctica and out of nowhere 14 #snowpetrels fly into a heart formation above you.

What would a penguin dream of? This question got me started on this latest #SciArt. For #AdeliePenguins on Ross Island #Antarctica, an underwater world full of krill and silverfish might be the answer. Their breeding season diet is a delicate balancing act between these two prey.

On our hike down to the #adeliepenguin colony at #CapeCrozier we transition across a sort of graveyard of mummies and skeletons, where death can seem beautiful. Just past this quiet area, the sight and sound of 300,000 very much alive and nesting penguins awaits.

#AdéliePenguins can be full of #curiosity. I watched this ragtag group inch slowly to this cliff edge. They seemed to be goading each other closer. Some finally ran away, but one dared stretch their head to peer into the abyss. #Antarctica

Sometimes science means doing some really strange sh$t. But it's all in the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. First in a potential series. #sciart #AdeliePenguin #Antarctica #SometimesScience #scicomm

What if someone asked you to inventory all Double-crested #Cormorant colonies in California? This new study attempts that and documents the important results. Led by Dave Shuford @PointBlueConSci with @AudubonCanyon & @NHMLA Out now @WFOrnithology

Some #sciart for y’all. The tags we placed on #AdeliePenguins had depth sensors and the deepest dive recorded was ~180 meters! Equivalent to a 55 story building!

*Lines are relatively scaled, the penguin is not - that would make it really really tiny. #scicomm #Antarctica

Have you ever thought about penguin armpits? When you stare at penguins for 5 or 6 hours a day, sometimes you can't help but ponder the mysteries of their armpits. Would ♥️ to hear your ideas on this eternal question. #AdeliePenguins #Antarctica #sciart #MysteriesOfTheUniverse

My thesis depends on data collected by @PointBlueConSci We are continuing to pry open the winter ecology of the Ross Sea Adélie penguin using hi-tech mini sensors that collect vast amounts of data. Here's a breakdown of these amazing little units we call "GDRs" #sciart #scicomm
