You can lock down the new ssid so devices on it can only connect to the Internet. Not to other local devices on the network.

If the device is connecting to an ssid that is on two access points, it might be choosing the wrong one. Nail it down by putting ssid on one ap only

Ie create kateiot ssid on 2.4 only and apply only to the ap nearest to the device.

You can have multiple ssids . Each with their own settings. And apply that ssid to one wifi aps. So apply it to the ap nearest to the device only so it can’t roam to the ap that is further away.

That’s probably your problem. Check which ap the device is connecting to
