Pokemon was/is a low power handheld game series except it's $70+30dlc now instead of $40 I see that as a big reason people perceive it differently now.

Visual showcases aren't somthing I look for in games in general especially not for weaker hardware like the switch anyone can get a pc/ps5 for "dazzling graphics".

To be fair I think most people would first think about narrative storytelling when the term story is invoked only people into the arts would think about visual storytelling.
