It's becoming increasingly clear to me that Reflect Orbital's fucking stupid giant mirror satellite, with absolutely NOTHING useful to offer, which will cause countless safety issues, ecological disasters, and destroy the night sky, is going to launch.

A bunch of astronomers and I have sent out […]

Me, as I’m nonchalantly parking at a tech company lot that I know they don’t tow from, singing in my head to the tune “Walk Like an Egyptian”:

“Walk Like a Tech Bro”. 🤣😂

The Seattle school board just voted down a cops-in-schools "School Resource Officer" pilot as the debate was going on.

@dkub I feel like Facebook and insta really trained brands that this is okay. Would have been completely inconceivable back in the early days of the internet.

Weird question, but does anyone have the Win95/98-era icon for *.cab files handy? I've tried, but have had poor luck trying to find that very specific icon.

It was definitely right to put the sign on the #weefreecommunitylibrary, as the school bus crowd this morning trickled over to take a look. Exactly as I’d hoped for placement! Except I was hoping it would be fully operational. I did see one kid trying to make out what was behind the sign, so […]

"We believe that these kinds of user-generated, curated collections could help people to find their tribe more quickly when they join the Fediverse.

At the same time, envisioning a similar feature that prioritises user consent, and works across a constellation of independent servers, is no […]

Today I made this braised leek dish and then put it in an omelet with cheese and tarragon. Delicious.

This feels safer for now given how wiggly it is. My fear right now is it will wiggle enough to make people anxious opening it, so they won’t open it at all in the future.
The same little library as the prior post, with a note taped on the front saying “Still under construction! (Need to reinforce post.) Be patient - open soon!”
jonobie.social.coop.ap.brid.gy
It LOOKS good. I just suspect that if people try to use it they’ll get a little scared off and stop from the wiggle. #weefreecommunitylibrary
A orange little library labelled “the wee free community library”. The same library, open, showing multiple books for people of different ages.

Bleargh, construction is really annoying. I had an EZSpike for the #weefreecommunitylibrary, and tried to get it in with @Wham this weekend. We actually bent the spike trying to get it into the ground here (full of rocks).

We shifted to a bracket in a concrete block, which seemed like it was […]

How it started, and how it’s going.
Two trays of vegetables, one with poblanos, onions, and cilantro. The other with a variety of tomatoes and two limes. A finished soup, with a yellowish soup base, a generous pile of cilantro, some sliced radishes, and a dollop of sour cream.

Bay Area desis: any recommendations for weekday south-Indian breakfast and filter-coffee in Santa Clara / Sunnyvale / Mountain View that are open on Thursday mornings?

I'll be without a car so places walkable from transit are especially appreciated! Thanks!

I also now wonder if "pluot" and "radish" would have been better and funnier, rather than the plural, though again, less parallel to the original.

I don't think I could ever be a poet. WAY too freaking hard.

Also, if your brain likes these sorts of noodlings, you should absolutely read "Le Ton […]

When I studied this poem in high school, I had no idea the depth of its comedic potential! Now my brain is off and running about other ways I could have written various parts. For such a short little thing, there's a lot packed in there.

For example, as second stanza, I could have said:

and […]

Common experience while working:

Client says they want to work on X. X is something I don't know about or am nervous about.

My brain: OH NO, let's ask A LOT OF QUESTIONS while we see if we can think of something.

Client's answers reveal a core issue that's a different problem. That I know […]

@rehana Yeah, I have enough tablets to last me ... for a VERY long time. 🤣 Plus side, sensitive is less important for me now that I've had my goofed up tooth pulled. So I think it'll be okay either way.

So far, the dresses have been the hardest part. When I was smaller and going during warmer months, it was easy to take sleeveless dresses, a jacket, leggings, and boots and sandals. Finding a sleeved version that dries fast, has pockets, and doesn't make me sad when I look in the mirror has been […]

I really like traveling with a pretty small backpack that I know, with certainty, I can always wrangle and move on my own through metro stations and up twisty stairs. So I'm planning lots of laundry with no driers, and taking basically 3 days worth of clothes. Still trying to decide whether to […]

I'm in that final run up to an international trip, which I haven't done in 6 years now, and it's like starting completely from scratch. My body is a different shape and harder to dress than it was back then. So my laundry room has underwear and leggings hanging all over it to see how quickly […]
