I just posted about this from a pop SF angle. You are clearly deeper into the philosophy of it! Do you have a good starting point for this "brain not consciousness-generating" (anti-physicalist?) view? I understand consciousness solely as a function of brain/body:

Your consciousness is a function of your brain (& body). If you manage to make a perfect duplicate of your 'Essence' (personality, memories, etc) and house that in a new machine:
• you (the consciousness that YOU experience) still die with your brain
• you (the consciousness that YOU experience) still die with your brain
