A portrait orientation photograph of a McLaren GT parked in front of the Nagasaki Soko (長崎倉庫(株) 元船倉庫) building on the port side in Nagasaki in Japan. For a few years now, I've been shooting commissioned pieces for McLaren here in Japan. This photo was one of a series we made in Nagasaki, Saga and Fukuoka with the McLaren GT. This location is one I've wanted to photograph a car with for some time. But a new car park nearby, with a roof parking area, made it far more possible. As the challenge with shooting cars and buildings is getting the car high up enough into the frame. Or, far enough away from the building. So that both can have equal presence. Car at street level and a building with the action occurring at roof level? Tough to make a great shot like that. The colour of the car we had for this shoot was also perfect for a shot with this building. Here we see the metallic green McLaren GT on the roof of a car park. The floor is a metal mesh. On it are painted some orange arrows, that match the colour of the large ball-like structure on top of the roof of the building behind. That background building is green, with rusty streaks down its walls. A landscape orientation photograph of Japanese pop simger, Ryūji Imaichi (今市 隆二). I made this photo as part of a two week commission to shoot as Unit Stills Photographer on a short Japanese film made in Mexico, in 2019. I was also shooting the behind the scenes video and I made the trailer for the movie. Here we se Ryūji-san standing beside a road in the Mexican countryside. We had been shooting in Pachuca, Hidalgo, and were on our way to Atitalaquia - doing some shots in various places on the way. They cast had finished the last shot and I had sorted out a nice nearby spot for a portrait of Ryūji. Movie work means a lot of waiting and then needing to spring into action very quickly, to shoot in as short a space of time as possible. I shot this with my Hasselbald H4D-40, the V-adaptor and my 1970s C250mm f/5.6 lens. The movie is called 'On My Way' and you can find an article on one of my websites, here, about the shoot. For which I was commissioned to create a theme, narrative and shoot photos with Samurai. My idea was to take what AMG was doing, what the makers and users of the Japanese sword do and find common ground. My idea was to frame it all around a theme of "Performance metal". My friend Nanyo-san came over from Paris to write the story. My buddy Tim assisted me with the photos. We spent five days around Nara, Amanohashidate, Osaka and Kyoto to meet people and create the piece. Which, originally covered far more than you see here: the car, more people, landscapes etc etc. The goal is always to shoot plenty of stuff, to give the editor as much flexibility as poss. I've worked with the publisher on many projects - before and since. We have a great relationship. There are six pages of the magazine featured here, from top left to bottom right: Fumon Tanaka (田中 普門, Tanaka Fumon, born December 13, 1943) is a traditional Japanese martial arts practitioner who holds a number of Soke positions in Japanese schools of martial arts. The tools and working area at swordsmith Gassan's workshop. We see his cushion, some hammers and the tools he required to perform his work. In the next frame we see Gassan himself, having just taken the katana he is making out of the trough of water in which he has cooled it whilst putting the signature curve on the blade after removing it from the fire at his left. This photo I had to make in complete darkness, as the master needs to be able to see the exact colour of the blade during this phase of heating, cooling and shaping. I set up some off-camera flashes and used a manual focus 20mm lens, pre-focused to a specific distance. I had one chance. Getting the reflection of him so perfectly made me very happy. Lastly we see Tanaka-sense and his daughter, Ukyo, in a classic pose. Each with a long sword. Ukyo-san is now the head of the family dojo. A landscape orientation photo made in Oimachi, Tokyo, in 2017 as part of a fashion shoot for London fashion label Neon Rose. The model, Ao, is standing about 5 metres away from me, in a narrow alleyway. The walls are painted reddish orange, with a sort of teal coloured stripe in places. There is a mirror on the wall, on the right, near me. In it there is a distorted reflection of Ao. Lighting is mainly from overhead fluorescent tubes at various places throughout the scene. The model is holding a red leather jacket. Dressed in a skirt and blouse The blouse is covered with various coloured sequins. She is leaning her head back, looking up and her eyes are closed. This was one of the last shots of a very long day, in which we'd shot across four different locations in various parts of Tokyo. This area of Oimachi is near where I live and a fave of mine. Quiet. Not so many tourists but always full of character.

The Nautilus House in Mexico is a remarkable blend of artistic experimentation and simplified living. It was designed by Javier Senosiain of Arquitectura Organica.

Inspired by the work of Gaudí and Frank Lloyd Wright, the Nautilus House is is another example of Senosiain calls “Bio-Architecture”.
