A decade ago, a random Australian hack labeled my nephew a terrorist. Despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary (presented in numerous legal proceedings up to and including the Supreme Court in two different countries), the lie was allowed to take hold and to spread.

I am continually stunned at the 🇨🇦 govt's lack of empathy and complete disrespect of prisoners' families. Isn't it enough that they have intentionally kept Cdns in horrific, life-threatening conditions without putting their relatives through further trauma?

They've been threatening to do it for years. Here's the proud announcement by a Canadian CT wonk of the publication of a paper she co-wrote on the "legal dilemmas" involved in the targeted killing of (uncharged, untried) nationals. It was published 9 years ago.

Let's remember Jack Letts, son of friends of mine, still stuck without charge in a Syrian jail, stripped of British citizenship but never charged with anything. And many others languishing there with him.
Uncharged, untried - there is no legal basis, no judicial authorization, review, control, or oversight of Jack's detention which entirely lacks in predictability and due process of law. #FreeJackLetts
