I've only heard Epic Games store would be coming, but I understood you don't need any app store to side load. You could just download the app from web browser

I recommend it! Put goals low and see what you can achieve in limited time. Limited time gives me a nice timebox.
My process for 2 day event is
- Have win/lose condition ASAP
- Rough but complete game loop by first 24h
- Make it pretty and "polished" I can on the second day
