A very good essay, and very revealing on how the military arm of the empire has decayed. I think it does have some very interesting shortcomings though, namely that it ignores the politcal reality of what the US military does
American bushido, the obsession with lethality, warrior ethos, and tactical “merit” was the logical endpoint of an all volunteer professional military. But it’s bleeding into the rest of American society in increasingly unhealthy ways. My latest⬇️

The sam seder jubilee video is so funny because one of the debate segments starts off with him saying "donald trump is only good for you if you love hitler" and then the next 20 minutes is his opponents screaming about how much they love hitler.

Finished a People's History of the united states. Despite its drawbacks (the soviet-bashing especially, though the book is from before we saw how bad the world is without them) I think he's mostly correct, especially here. It feels a bit naive in places, but it deserves its place in the US left

interesting to contrast Zinn's treatment of the dprk and vietnam, though he does of course condemn the US in both. Elsewhere zinn lionizes NV's guerilla history, and emphasizes it was the legitimate govt, but the equivocation of NK and SK as foreign backed dictatorships is really all he says on them

Read the part of peoples history of the united states on the seattle general strike and now seeing people talk about real possibilities for general strikes with how fucked the economy is and will be with trump. Feels harder and harder to deny that we're regressing to the early 20th century

Ignoring how he probably cant do this because old people and rural people would riot/die en masse, cases of former carriers actually going postal would increase a thousandfold, and thanks to luigi killing businessmen is a bit in vogue now, genuinely suicidal, maybe even more than the tariff thing

Apple pie was so close to bing actually good but i forgot to cut vents until 40 minutes into the bake, and its not quite as dark as I'd like, think next time ill bake it a bit longer and laminate it a bit more, and hopefully remember to cut vents into it lol
