I wouldn’t have even tried this as a solo outing. Aleya is 7 months and still in early training days. She’d be fine on a two-hour outing, but by the time she went out to touch grass, we were at hour 4, give or take.

Things to keep in mind when you see a service dog in training act up in public!

Cat Mom took Aleya to the grass while I stayed in the exam room. They came back, and the ornery started up a minute later. Back to the grass, this time to poop.

Then even more waiting before doc 2, and it was sooooo booooring, mom!

Hence the outside break.

I totally misjudged today’s outing with Aleya. We budgeted waaaay too much time for traffic and had to sit in the first waiting room for too long. By the time we got in to see doc 1, aleya had to pee, but hasn’t learned to communicate that clearly, so she just got ornery.

They did see another service dog (possibly trainer) in the elevator. @leavesdancing.bsky.social said Aleya did great! The other dog’s handler kept giving the “leave it” command.

It’s a curse of having a service dog. Everyone feels compelled to stop and trap you in a conversation so they can tell you about the dog they had 2/10/30/44 years ago that looked just like your service dog and died, often tragically.

It’s horrid. Like… don’t do that, people.
