Too Loud for Comfort: The Cost of Authenticity Nobody Warns You About
This post is part of my series on authenticity, identity, and the cost of visibility. Two Months Quiet: What I Learned About Listening to Myself

Two Months Quiet: What I Learned About Listening to Myself
“I disappeared for two months because I was drowning, and I’m done pretending that’s a metaphor.” August brought me 27 doctor's appointments in 21 days. Because finally, a doctor was listening to me. Welcome to the Roller Coaster You’ve probably heard the term “neurodivergent” buzzing around lately. It’s a fancy way of saying someone’s brain works differently—autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or some other beautiful variant. And when it comes to teens? Oh, buckle up, buttercup, because the ride gets wild. As the parent of a neurodivergent teen (and two who have recently reached adulthood), I won’t sugarcoat it: this journey is messy, unpredictable, and sometimes downright exhausting.

Ah, the eternal question. Right after “So, are you still writing that book?” and “How many personalities live in your head?” comes the fan favorite: “Where do you get your ideas?” Short answer? Everywhere.Long answer? From trauma, late-night existential dread, ADHD hyperfixations, and that one weird dream I had in 2009 about a haunted vending machine. Some writers outline. Some channel divine inspiration.
