He'd already lost the Iowa caucuses that he'd been expected to win. There was a mood change where Democrats felt they needed a war hero to oppose W (John Kerry) The "scream" isn't what sunk him but the pile on was ridiculous.

I live in PA and Conor Lamb has been everywhere. He came to my county's Democratic meeting and spoke with everyone. Very personable, very sincere. He really listened. And very interested in challenging Fetterman--he said he would be "happy to serve" in whatever capacity, etc, etc.
