🦠 1.6% of organisms were carbapenem resistant!

New paper out today by my mentee!

We evaluated 200 service members with GC or CT infection at a large military base.

Follow-up testing within 1 year was significantly less for men (51%) than women (71%)

Lowest f/u in:
-Symptomatic
-Those tested in ED

Love this abstract from ELSO 2025:

Stopping daily surveillance blood cultures on pediatric ECMO pts led to significant decrease in antibiotic use.

Such a great example of a group using local data to update their local practice.

New pediatric ECMO data on 🦠ppx from Mayo

✅ All pts on ECMO receive cefazolin starting at cannulation
✅ +Open chest = + fluconazole
✅ Rec for all pts to get Peds ID consult

Protocol led to more appropriate abx use. No change in infections
