Yea of course. I was just after some generic ideas really away from the mandatory stuff. My remit is teaching and learning and just wanted to see what other schools do during staff meetings. Get to see the SDP today as it’s a new school for me 👍

Hard agree here. Always what I’ve tried to do and you’re right, can be a tough sell when they’ve been so used to being able to sit passively through them. Another one of those culture battles which are hard to change.

Yep. Incredibly irritating from the teachers point of view as well. I want to show that I value CPD and make staff meetings worthwhile. In my experience, I also don’t think that enough thought is often put into them and that invariably causes annoyance. Need to avoid that!!

New school - so just testing the waters - see what other school out there do.

Ive always said quiet but explained this isn’t a criticism & say that often such a child is taking everything in, doesn’t need the validation of their peers by answering every question & produces excellent work. Ive never really understood the ‘I would like more involvement in class discussion line’

Milkdud got me and so did not enoughcrows. Gutting. Gutting.

Same applies to staff meetings. Poorly delivered over time results in negative attitudes towards them as people don’t see any value. This ends up as a shared view towards CPD

True. However, everybody who delivers them should give them real thought and make sure they are beneficial. Too often they are done poorly and it is then difficult to change peoples attitude towards them. IMO

World class progress 😆😆😆

Guess it depends if that was a best bit. It would certainly make the room go quiet.

Nobody’s listening anyway. Switched off after the forced chat about the summer holidays where each person shared with the whole group their best bits.

Morning all. About to start my 13th year teaching. Newly appointed deputy head in a new school in September and do a bit for maths hubs as a primary mastery specialist.

Yep. Nonsense. New unit on the maya.
‘What questions do you have?’
‘I don’t know what I want to know as I don’t know anything?’
‘Just write something’
‘Ok. What did they eat?’
‘Excellent’

Morning #edusky
Now starting my 13th year. Recently appointed deputy head in a new school. Made loads of connections on Twitter and after the same on here

My previous school wanted them before each foundation subject unit. I’ve not read your article but I feel they are a complete waste of time. As if I’d change my unit planning I’ve spent ages sorting because 4 children know who Zeus and Poseidon are.
