Impeccable taste

This is part of it for sure, but I don't know how much of it. It feels like people are just playing VNs less in general (at least in the west - they're booming in Korea and especially China, so we're starting to put much more of a focus on the latter). Yuri and BL are also less popular than bsj/otm

Yep absolutely, I don't fault people at all for not buying games right now! Especially folks in the US, there's just so much more important stuff to deal with and pay for right now.

And of course, most of those copies are sold on discounts during sales. I'd estimate maybe 1/3 of copies are purchased for full price, plus regional pricing (for example, a game that's $15 in the US costs the equivalent of about $8 at full price in China, where about a quarter of our sales are)

Our top 3 bestselling games are (in terms of Steam sales) Highway Blossoms with 60k copies, HotW with about 30k, and Please Be Happy is sitting just below 10k. From there it's basically half that or below. Can toss a couple thousand onto there if you factor in console, itchio, etc. Excludes bundles

I don't know if this kind of stuff is interesting to anyone, but the budget for one of our games is usually somewhere from 10,000-30,000 USD, plus an additional 5-10k for voice acting. Heart of the Woods was our most costly production so far, although Summer will exceed it

It certainly isn't helped by the fact that it's basically impossible to get any kind of press coverage or publisher support for visual novels anymore. Even sites that used to write about our games don't anymore

It's a little frustrating sometimes because I think people think we're a lot bigger and more successful than we really are. We are absolutely very fortunate and privileged to have such a supportive fan base, but most of our games sell a couple thousand copies if that
