Sandy, writing off nuclear because we've had massively ineffective governments for 14 years is like writing off rail travel because of HS2.

The problems with sizewell are almost entirely unique to the UK. When theres so many examples of it working phenomenally well.

I actually dont mind if we call the Senate of regions and nations the Lords. And we give the members the title.

But terms, elections and a smaller number are a must.

Select comittees are actually great at scrutiny and should have a greater constitutional role in legislative proc.

By that exact logic you must also oppose any socialist's participation in parliament? No?

You in a union?

I was elected as Lab/coop. My TU is affiliated to Labour. Labour is the only party that actually gives unions real power and recognises their key role in the empowerment of the working class more widely.

Why would I abandon my party to right wing careerists when thats exactly what they want?

Your sentement is completely correct. However we have to work with the world as it is.

And right now Britain has very few industries capable of global market competitiveness. And defending Europe from Putin is a genuinely good cause.

It absolutely shouldnt be the only industry we invest in obvs.

Sorry I forgot trade union activism and solidarity with the working class were no longer the markers of socialism.

Reddit posts on r/communism and retweeting lazy memes however, thats socialism!

The arms industry is highly regulated and the government can directly control who we export to.

Im not blind to the failings, I spend a huge amount of my time trying to change them.

But you can acknowledge selling to liberal Democracies for their defence agaisnt Russia is a good thing, no?

?

Don't understand this comment tbh. I am a small l liberal and socialist. I think thats a widely recognised ideological position but sorry if I'm wrong about that.
December 26, 2025 at 11:06 PM
Tbf youre right about that, I was posting online about being left wing that was stupid of me to expect any engagment beyond namecalling and generalisations.
December 26, 2025 at 11:05 PM
Almost like that comment is entirely unrelated to the point I was making.

I'm a liberal socialist, I want to see this gov do better than it is and actually yeah leveraging the very real issue of Russian imperialism to get more industrial investment might be a great way of accomplishing that.
December 26, 2025 at 10:51 PM
Taking a moment to try and not repeat the greatest mistakes of British socialists and shill for dictators and imperialists, just because they oppose the west yeah.

We climbed down on the ERB. We climbed down on tax. We climbed down on consititional reform.

I fully expect leadership to water down the planning reform bill now.

No legacy, no flagship legislation. Nothing but broken promises and erratic governance. We were meant to be better than this.
