No reason to even scrap lifetime tenure. They take senior status after 18 years (unless they choose to fully retire) and get assigned to a court of appeals (the one they were previously at in many instances or the one covering where they live) with a reduced case load.

No sour grapes either. I am a Messi fan and know how he punishes mistakes (unfortunately). But to grow the sport, you can’t alienate folks who follow other teams. The perception is Miami gets special treatment to have their roster, then gets special treatment they don’t need or deserve on the pitch.

The creeping resentment is also due to the (I think justified) perception that Miami gets virtually every 50-50 call in a remotely competitive match. Everyone can think of a couple deserved second yellows Messi, Busquets, & Co. didn’t get. Ask Orlando fans, for example.
