UNC does have experience faking academics for athletes, so an honorary degree should be no problem

It’s another version of the GOP capitalizing on people thinking they’re temporarily embarrassed millionaires, but in sports instead of economics

In that worldview, it’s easier to go “that trans kid is keeping my Timmy from going pro” than “Damn, Timmy really sucks at this”. Definitely doesn’t make it right in any way, but I understand why republicans have been able to tap into this so effectively

The player being more than 100% above the team’s offer is kinda crazy. Gotta get me some of that self confidence
joshorgeosh.bsky.social
That makes sense. I do think that the increased variance of that much roster change does open contenders to a wider range of outcomes (including not being a contender any more), but on average you’d expect it to provide positive value due to teams learning from past rosters

Thanks for the reply!

It feels like a lot of these rankings value upcoming cap space a lot more than I do, since in my view cap space is similar to future draft picks since it’s potential value (requires players to sign/draft picks to work out). Am I undervaluing cap space?

Aside from that, agree with the rankings

Wild that they hid the 2026 part of the release date in void, but crazy lore implications

@btrowland.bsky.social Do you give any weight to the Pompey report saying Bailey wants to play “somewhere between Atlanta and New York”. Feels like there’s no shot the team is able to pick him, but him specifically calling out ATL feels weird

Congrats on 2K!!

I understand that it can be frustrating for fans to not know what’s going on in advance, but I’d definitely rather not know anything than have everyone in the league know everything

Like, as soon as you think you have “the guy” you should start actually trying to put pieces around him and your other young pieces so that they have a better environment to develop. But doing that without that guy makes you destined for mediocrity

You still have to get (very) lucky to get an all-star outside the top 5, much less a player capable of being the best player on a championship team.

Agree that team construction matters a lot (both for development and being a playoff team), but you still need that crown jewel to win

Outside of the 04 Pistons, the only way to win a championship has been to get a star, and the only way for small markets to get a star is to win the lottery. Flattened odds means that those teams have to spend even longer in hell to have a legit shot at competing (unless you’re the Spurs)

Kon seems like he’s a high floor wing that should be able to contribute out of the box. I don’t blame certain teams taking him in the top 10 (closer to 10 than 5 though)

Maluach is a pure upside/athleticism/size bet (which I’m kinda iffy about), but teams have made riskier bets in the top 10 before

1. Jalen got the starting job after a single game, so idk how much I buy that

2. Even then, that’s a front office issue rather than purely a Quin issue. It’s uncertain how much input/blame he deserves for the roster issues, but it’s definitely not 100%
joshorgeosh.bsky.social
I agree with you on Roddy over Mo early this season, but who on the roster should’ve played PF minutes over Bey/Hunter the last two seasons (especially when Jalen was injured)? Feels like a roster construction issue more than a Quin issue
joshorgeosh.bsky.social
The fact that LA traded AD right before he got injured and got Luka right before he came back healthy will annoy the hell out of me for a while
joshorgeosh.bsky.social
There is a somewhat nuanced argument that he’ll end up as the best center prospect in year 3+ given his raw attributes

But given who we’re talking about, yeah it’s because he’s tall
joshorgeosh.bsky.social
I swear, Hawks fans would draft a paraplegic if he was 7ft
joshorgeosh.bsky.social
With 16 players currently on the roster, who do you think the team will buy out to get to the roster limit?
joshorgeosh.bsky.social
@btrowland.bsky.social Any word on who the Hawks are waiving/cutting? Even with the Zeller dump they’re still above 15 players
