Maddock apparently doesn't know how the "ghost employee" dollars were spent last year.

So, this just sounds like a performative topline cut.

But where did the *actual* dollars go? If there are really 4300 unfilled employees, then how were those extra dollars spent within the department appropriation?

Across the House budget, lawmakers eliminated roughly 4,300 full-time positions for a savings of $560 million. Republicans have argued the eliminated positions are regularly left unfilled within departments and the money instead is rolled over year after year, artificially inflating budgets and tying up money that could be spent elsewhere.

Lafferty specifically identified the nonprofit Michigan Citizens for Fiscal Responsibility as the entity to receive the money after Lombardini floated the idea of tying the cash to a Sept. 8, 2020, fundraising dinner for the Senate Republican Campaign Committee, which is required to disclose its donors. "We are trying to be sensitive of the optics of our corporate support because both HAP and Henry Ford Health Systems (sic) furloughed some employees due to the COVID crisis," wrote Lafferty, according to an email previously read in court. "The plan is to bring these folks back when demand for health care picks back up but that's happening slower than we expected.

If the bird is using it then it’s occupied. A lot of other communities have similar ordinances. This is my town’s law. You have have an official remove it. 🤷

Risky to make that determination yourself. There are also local ordinances that prohibit any kind of nest removal. This is Ann Arbor’s.
9:37. - Birds and birds' nests. No person shall molest, injure, kill or capture any wild bird, or molest or disturb any occupied wild bird's nest or the contents thereof. A violation of this section shall be a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $500.00 or by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or both. (Ord. No. 21-28, § 3, 9-20-21)
