Since I'm properly doing this now I guess I will do the #intro message thingo too. Hello!

I'm a #writer and #gamedev living in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia but I'm originally from New York City.

In the past I was also an event manager and community organiser as well as the founder of GX Australia.
With Thanksgiving out of the way, I'm unfortunately now feeling crap. I feel flu-adjacent but minus a lot of the symptoms I associate with being sick, so I reckon it's my body demanding I actually stop and take a rest, but Ryan thinks it sounds viral. Who knows, at least I don't have anything to do.

You: oh wow Joshua you cooked so much for Thanksgiving yesterday, I bet today you just flomped at home —

Me: Cinnamon scrolls.

You: What?

Me: Cinnamon scrolls.

1 AM, and finished. 🫠 It's a wrap on Thanksgiving 2025, I made seventeen different dishes (not plates, there were maaanyy more than that) themed around Louisiana and New Orleans specifically including gumbo, sweet potato pie, and cornbread. So tired. So sore. So stuffed, but glad to have done it.

Valiant effort by the piece of shit garlic press to survive until the very last clove for the very last dish before cracking and sending metal pieces all over the kitchen. 🫡

Zee bird is in the oven. 🫠

I have cooked everything else except for green beans, which will be done at the end. And then I have to figure out how to reheat seven dishes all at once. 🤣

Prep Day Two: cooked all of the pies (so, so many pies) and did the other make-ahead prep that could be done today. Tomorrow is cooking the things that really can't be done too far in advance and, of course, cooking the turkey itself. I am very excited though, this is going to be sooo good.
November 26, 2025 at 11:11 AM
Prep Day One: I cooked the two non-turkey mains for Thursday (the flavours will develop over the next two days and be delicious by Thanksgiving), dry-brined the bird (such a gross process), and made a compound butter for turkey-slathering. Tomorrow will be baking and making sides.

Turkey get! Just picked up my very expensive, fresh gobble-gobble from the Queen Victoria Market, and the rest of the day will be spent cooking the mains that will benefit from having flavours develop over two days and dry-brining the bird tonight. 👨‍🍳

Nominations are now open for the Steam Awards and I’d love it if you’d consider nominating Alcyone: The Last City for "Outstanding Story-Rich Game." At nearly 250k words long, I think it qualifies!

Beef gyudon with pickled ginger, fried egg, togarashi, and spring onion over sushi rice.

Hosted thirteen people for Thanksgiving last year, wanted to avoid that size again, am still doing that many this year. (I’m not complaining, excited to do it, but it’s a lot of work).

Finalised the menu and it hit me that it’s less than a week away. I’m going to be cooking three days straight. 😵‍💫

Authentiqué carbonara (just with fresh linguine instead of spaghetti as I don't like the latter), I managed to grab the last of the guanciale from the grocery store. 🥳

Wicked: For Good was really, really stellar — besides one very specific choice by the director that you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about if/when you see it — but I liked it more than the first part by far.

(I’ve seen the Broadway show a bajillion times in four different cities.)

Is birthday.

I don't usually do much, but I had a smol party last night because this has been a frustrating year & I wanted a day for myself.

Today my partners gave me this, because months ago I was saying I wanted to figure out how to make & program tiny robots. I am loved, and I am happy for it.

Anyway, as of about two hours ago, it's my seventeenth anniversary of living in Australia. (I genuinely swore I have been here longer than that, good thing time isn't real anyway.)

"What would you do if you won the lottery?"

"You'd suddenly hear a screen adaptation of Sabriel by Garth Nix was coming out."

Nearly ten years later, I get an email from Kickstarter that someone has filled in their backer pledge for GX Australia.

My friend... I'm afraid that you might have missed the convention...

I have some opinions about "Protect Mardi Gras" and assimilationist queers not wanting to rock the boat when we have literal fascists taking over.

"Protect Mardi Gras" or else Kylie might not perform again!
Assimilationist queers are not a new thing, and every oppressed minority has its own flavour of folks who think appeasement and ass-kissing is the best way to save their own necks.

I got asked about my thoughts on making indie games in 2025 and I swear not every response I provided was so curmudgeony. 😅

Would anyone who’s a whiz with Illustrator (and/or vector-based illustration generally) be interested in some logo design work? I have a mockup and some specific ideas for what I want, but my Illustrator skills are totally abysmal and I’d rather pass this off to a professional artist.

I made sloppy joes from the canned stuff — a flavour I haven’t had since I was at least a teenager. Compared to the homemade ones I did a few months ago I am pleased to say that the recipe I used ended up tasting about identical to the canned sauce, and I’d dare say mine was even a bit nicer.
