I don’t think I deserve *that* much credit, since I’m sure these folks would have succeeded either way. It’s not like my courses have any secret information. But if I can smooth out the learning journey or make it a bit faster, I think that’s a huge win. 😄

Congrats on finishing the course! I’m glad it was helpful 😄

Appreciate it!

I ordered Mike Dawes’ course but it ships on a USB drive so I don’t have it yet. Will check it out.

100%. I get so irritated when people say that an LLM lied to them. LLMs don’t lie, they produce tokens that may or may not be what you want.

He’s great! Yeah, I’ve started poking around with DADGAD tuning, but figure I should get used to standard tuning first.

I’ve heard good things about the Yamaha guitars! According to people on YouTube they’re better than anything else in the price range.

I did do one in-person lesson from a tutor, and that was actually super helpful, probably something I'll try to do regularly in the future. But for now I'm mostly learning through experimentation, figuring out how to map piano concepts onto the guitar.

Yeah, that sums up how I'm feeling quite well! As someone who makes music, I found that Suno quote completely baffling.

Ohhh, yeah I can see how that would be confusing! 😂

Learning a new instrument has been a nice antidote for that. It’s simple and pure and all about the journey, not the destination.

I think that’ll be my New Year’s resolution. To focus on enjoying the process, even as the world shifts away from that focus.

I’ve been feeling deflated by all of the AI stuff. I think this whole era is revealing that a lot of people just want the output, they don’t care about the process, and they’re willing to jettison quality in exchange for quantity. It’s dispiriting.

I picked up a classical nylon-string guitar from Godin, a local Quebec manufacturer. I’ve been experimenting with it for a couple hours a day, in 15-minute increments.

I’m surprised by how *direct* it feels. I play the piano, where there’s a lot more steps between me and the resonating strings.

I've never really tried to pick up the guitar before because I don't really like most guitar music. I mostly listen to EDM. 😂

But I recently stumbled upon fingerstyle guitarists like Seiji Igusa and was overwhelmed by how lovely the instrument can sound:

Admittedly, this advice might be a bit dated. It used to be the case that if you got to know 10-15 junior devs, you’d have a *super* formidable network in a year or two. Things are a bit more grim these days for junior devs.

But if anything, I think your network matters even more now.
