We had to put my elderly cat down a few years ago (he was 18 and was going through a lot of quality of life issues) and are unfortunately looking at having to do it with our dog (larger breed; she's 13)...

because they are retiring.... they have nothing to lose. Same with the other 6 that voted yes and aren't up for re-election in next year's midterms...

yeah, that was the nice thing about switching from enlisted to officer. My oath no longer required swearing to follow the orders of the President. It was implied with the whole part about swearing to defend the Constitution, but not stated

It's the military Oath of Enlistment.
The Oath for Commissioned Officers (at least the Army version, but I'm fairly sure the other branches have similar wording) doesn't include the line about following the orders of the President; they (I used to be an Army officer) swear to defend the Constitution
