And then I look across the border.
The English or UK flag could mean the same community, courage, history, home. But too often it has been hijacked. Snatched up by racists who wave it like a club instead of a cloth.
They use it to divide, not unite. To shut doors, not open them.

It doesn’t demand sameness. It celebrates difference because Wales itself is made of difference.

A land where the warmth of community is woven into every gathering, where you’re free to live as you are and love as you choose.
The flag is not a weapon.
It’s a welcome.

We attended different community events and supported them, we made new friendships and worked closer with various organisations and communities.

We are a group of women dedicated to working with and for other women and Newport’s communities. This year, we proudly hosted two photography exhibitions, ran various workshops - art and health, and had the privilege of speaking at the Senedd about the vital role of community and volunteers.
