OAP cyclist, gardener.
Bad for the riders, but am very envious. Most of the north of England has recently been officially declared to be in drought and water restrictions are almost sure to follow.

Only 9c here on a cloudy and miserable E.Coast.

If you're looking for trouble, you came to the right place!

Good lad. Love the way you tell these politicians what it's really like for the little folk 👍

May be tempted pack gardening in altogether if this becomes the new norm.

Already seen some articles in the Guardian about conserving water now to avoid a summer drought.

I also mulched the borders in early Spring which has helped to an extent. Some selective watering here, but like yourself the South facing borders are struggling...although the lack of water doesn't seem to stop the weeds!

How's your garden doing Peter?
My clay soil is turning into a mix of concrete and dust. Little sign of appreciable rain on the horizon ☹

I remember the aggravation over that name at the time.
British government didn't want the 'e', but the French insisted and finally got their way.

Bit early for 30c. So long as it stays down south South I'll still be able to get some sleep!

Was fortunate to meet Barry on a few occasions after he retired and was working in the bike trade. A typical no-nonsense Yorkshireman who nevertheless was warm and friendly to all. One of my cycling heroes, alongside the late Brian Robinson. RIP Barry 😢

Tomorrow can't come soon enough. Currently 8c on the coast. Heating will be on this evening ☹

As you do!

No denying the garden could do with a good soaking. No chance next week though.

Thank goodness! 👍

Not for those of nervous disposition!

May be the end of any Paris-Roubaix dreams for this year.

Nice shirt there Jose!

Hinault hated the race, but advised Tour men take part in order to be ready for the cobbles when they appeared on the tour route.

Much as I enjoy pizza I love lasagne, so I'll have to go Pasta.

Have never had much luck with alpines in our heavy clay soil, only the Heathers in pots have flourished. I guess we have to make the best of what we have.
March 7, 2025 at 5:22 PM
Very smart Peter. Do you have the right soil conditions for alpines?
March 7, 2025 at 4:52 PM
Never do. Am one of those old school geezers who still keep a fully equipped winter steed.
