Highlight as you read any of the novels! Anything you think is especially feminist or related to the class, you won’t want to reread and hunt for good quotes once you finish them and you’ll need them for the papers. #bsueng490

I thought that the friend being pregnant contrasts the horse transformation quite nicely. One is conforming to societal norms while the other is not. #bsueng490

nothing to see here…just a totally normal family hang out in the pink bathroom! #bsueng490

Ummmm no. My father will not be kissing me like that. #bsueng490

“Fight like a man” will never not anger me. He’s the one fighting a woman… #bsueng490

If I were raped and forced to have my baby taken from me, I too would murder all my husbands. Verna deserved far better. #bsueng490

Having kids sounds more terrifying after reading the short story. It's infuriating how much she was expected to do while suffering so much because of being pregnant. #eng490

The first story was definitely the weirdest I've read. The scene in the bathroom was crazy to read. It all could've been avoided if they had communicated their feelings. What a crazy concept. #bsueng490

“when you cause unhappiness, by virtue of the desires you have or the worlds you are not willing to take up as your own, unhappiness is assumed as your cause. It is not.” (258)

Reading the first short story was so scary. As soon as the hunting bird was mentioned, I had a feeling it would be back with a vengeance. #bsueng490

The meduse were just misunderstood. When they brought her food and water, I knew they were good and would be best pals. #bsueng490

Binti leaving her home planet and family for school is so brave, actually. I'm 3 hours from mine, and even that feels like too far sometimes. #bsueng490

Cassie staying true to herself and making questionable choices all the way until the end is almost a sense of comfort. We can always rely on her to be engaged after killing someone! #bsueng490

"And yet, at the same time, marginalization also frames power and privilege from an interesting vantage point; it offers a seemingly existential choice: to overconform to the dominant view of masculinity as a way to stake a claim to it..." (127)

The whole conversation with Ned had my jaw on the floor. What do you mean Lexie was going to keep the baby? #bsueng490

I'm so ready to find out how Cassie's story ends, all this tension that is building up is doing it's job in getting me really stressed. #bsueng490

Cassie losing her focus isn't a shock at all. I feel like it was clear from the beginning that she would start to believe that she really is Lexi. Her hiding things from Frank and Sam is a red flag for sure. #bsueng490

There really is so much testosterone in the room. I wonder how Abby and Cass will get along, as they are the only women in the book so far. #bsueng490

The relationship between Ada and Asughara, and how it evolves, particularly as Ada steps more into herself, was really interesting to read. #bsueng490

I felt like the conversation between Ada and Asughara was very insightful, the lines between the two are very blurred to where even they can't remember who is doing what. It also feels like Ada is taking care of Asughara rather than the other way around. #bsueng490

"This chapter is an argument for pleasure in the confusion of boundaries and for responsibility in their construction" (345).

Watching Asughara and Ada become closer and protect each other was so crazy to read. It's like a toxic ex you can't get rid of. Except that the friend is morphing into you, and lives in your head. #bsueng490

The conversation between Asụghara and Yshwa in the marble room was the scene that most stuck out to me. The blend of beliefs within the Ada was so interesting to see. #bsueng490
