Sure, it's easy and tempting to assume that our leaders will always suck as hard as they suck now. But latent in that assumption is that the leaders who presided over big, incredible transformations were exceptional people. Maybe they were and maybe they weren't, but I'm here to tell you, ten minutes' worth of research into the biographies of the "heroes" of our history will reveal them to have been every bit as capable of monstrousness, cowardice, cruelty and pig-ignorant bigotry as any of today's rotating cast of fascist goons:

As a combat soldier, I recognize a mission when I see one — not because it’s announced, but because it’s being carried out. In the span of weeks, ICE and Border Patrol operations in Minneapolis have resulted in the deaths of two Minnesotans. In over a year of combat in Iraq, my battalion of 500 soldiers did not kill a single person. That difference matters. My unit spent 397 days on the battlefield. We were shot at. We feared for our lives. Snipers fired from crowds. Improvised explosive devices lined the roads we were ordered to clear. And still, we did not return fire unless strict conditions were met: The shooter had to be clearly identified, civilians could not be in the line of fire, and lethal force had to be the last resort. Why? Because that was not our mission.

I just can't tell you how proud we all are of what you have done. For every American this has to be the proudest day of our lives, and for people all over the world I am sure that they, too, join with Americans in recognizing what an immense feat this is. Because of what you have done the heavens have become a part of man's world, and as you talk to us from the Sea of Tranquility, it inspires us to redouble our efforts to bring peace and tranquility to earth.

I have given up any hope that you will address the violence and chaos you unleashed with your mindless support for Trump. Given that you cannot act as a decent human being in this regard, I suggest you own your actions. I want you to campaign, and campaign hard, for your votes to support Trump and ICE. I want you to explain to your Michigan's 7th district that you will urge Trump to flood us with masked ICE agents. I want you to urge Trump to remove TPS status from anyone in our community so they may be returned to whatever country they fled. I want you to proudly declare that you believe masked federal agents should not be bound by the due process of law or the Constitution. I want you to tell us that you consider this your greatest achievement. I want you to do all these things because at least you would finally say something honest. And the voters will let you know in November how well they think you've served us.

If an agent leaves before that time is up—whether they quit because the job is too stressful, get fired for cause, or have to resign due to family medical issues—they don’t just stop receiving future installments. In many cases, they must repay the entire gross amount of the bonus received up to that point. Imagine receiving $10,000 upfront. After taxes, you might take home $7,000. You spend it on relocation costs. Six months later, you leave the job. The government will demand repayment of the full $10,000. Suddenly, you are $3,000 in debt for a job you no longer have.

Which is why, once the GOP turned to Gingrich-style slash-and-burn politics and Limbaugh-style speech and no one objected strongly enough to smash that poisoned chalice and run its practitioners out of the party, the road to a monster like Trump was made straight. Today, the federal government IS the Klan: cowards murdering people while hiding behind masks. His name was Mathew Allen. Masked ICE agents shot him multiple times while he was surrounded by half a dozen agents holding him down. They are the Klan. You are their leader. I've tried to teach students the difference between a profession and an occupation for years and I think this essay is spot on.

But why are bosses such easy marks for these gabby AI hustlers? Partly, it's because an AI can probably do your boss's job – if 90% of your job is answering email and delegating tasks, and if you are richly rewarded for success but get to blame failure on your underlings, then, yeah, an AI can totally do that job. But I think there's an important psychological dimension to this: bosses are especially easy to trick with AI when they're being asked to believe that they can use AI to fire workers who are in a position to tell them to fuck off.

Trump knows his days of complete lack of accountability are numbered. That’s why he is moving as quickly as he can to try and consolidate power. But that plan, if it is any plan at all, contains the seeds of its own failure. As discussed above, the Trump regime has the plan completely backward. It must consolidate before it can dictate; it cannot dictate in some desperate move to consolidate. Keep this in mind as we watch the regime violently flail around and turn even more of the electorate against it.

A rapist yelled at America last night. A rapist insisted that he was the greatest president in history. A rapist declared that he did more than any other president has in eight years, which, if measured by destruction and death, perhaps, perhaps. I want Americans to bear in mind every time he pleads for a Nobel Peace Prize, every time he glorifies himself by putting his cursed name on something, every time he opens that lying hole in his face, that it is a rapist saying that, that he behaves like a rapist, that he objectifies everything like a rapist, and that he thinks that he should get to fuck whatever he wants. And that, really, the one thing we don't know yet is just how horrific of a rapist he is.
