Shaun what do you think about the argument that agreements like this make the cease fire less likely. This incentives russia not to stop.

Yeah they just say that, and it sounds fancy, but it's notoriously inaccurate and someone would need to put their credentials on the line and debate it with other experts (peer analysis). But this kind of statements get a life of their own online.

Yes, ideals are nice and between two parties who respect international law it is very important to adhere to it. But if one fucks around, they need to find out it was a bad move! Shredding no tears or concern for Maduro and his regime, even if trumps rhetoric sounds nuts.

Not sure about cheering, but first need to see how Venezuelans react. Then should consider that Venezuela was not respecting international law anyway and can't claim it's protection. International law is not protecting us at the moment as it is, there is no enforcement or real consequences.

This point of view is worth thinking about further. We can't be in a situation where authoritarians do not follow international law, or face real consequences breaking them anyway, but we can't even stop shadow fleet ships because of some clause in an agreement hardly anyone knows about.

What's NATO really? You think majority of NATO members would go to war for Narva especially if the invasion was quick and russia would use all possible diplomatic channels to say that's it, we won't go further, promise. This scenario is described in detail in What if russia wins book.

While idiotic theme here, russian approach would be to feed any, no matter how stupid, discord in the target country through information influence, social media boost, trolls, funding etc. We should do the same.
