OPINION: The U.S. has abandoned the post-World War II consensus on allies and the value of defending freedom, instead revolving around transactions and deal-making, wielding tariffs to punish or reward, and defining allies based on financial benefit rather than shared democratic values.
For most of the world, the US is now a malign actor
While many may be tempted to cut the U.S. off as an ally and partner, I hope our friends don’t give up on us so easily.
