Get a rescue mutt. They are usually smarter and healthier, and are really so very grateful - they'll love you forever. (Also, for what it's worth, Chihuahuas live a LONG time, and while some are lovely, most seem to be reincarnated malignant narcissists with a Napoleon complex.)
