Hate that it has come to this, but the @latimes.com has left its staff hanging with years of bad faith bargaining.

I’d much rather be focused on doing critical reporting for you all in times like these, but since The Times can’t get serious at the table, I’m voting yes.

Donald Bren, founder of the Irvine Company, has a net worth of $19B and is considered the most successful real estate magnate in the U.S.

His estranged son, David, has allegedly used the Bren name as a lure for investors in businesses like The Bunker, which never materialized.

Apparently it’s Batman day, which I am celebrating by letting @tarantulaarms.bsky.social give me the bad dose and reading the first Absolute Batman trade, which is great and inevitably going to send me back to comic book store for the first time
In two years.

^And as is always legally required when referencing this story -- I was wrongfully detained by LAPD covering protests in Echo Park the week after the above article ran. Lex was the one who caught it on film, which probably helped keep me out of jail.

Not the first time LAPD has been accused of mistreating Lex. In 2020, he was arrested covering wild celebrations that followed the Dodgers' World Series win. I later found out he was the only person the city tried to prosecute for failure to disperse.

A reporter who published a video alleging LAPD officers attacked him during World Series victory celebrations was charged with failure to disperse last month.
