Interested in science, natural history, preserving biodiversity. Restoring and protecting a 2-acre prairie remnant for 20+ years 😱 ... I have a lot of questions. I try to read, but tend to fall asleep when I stop moving. Wisconsin

Need more constructive action.

Destroying what’s good to teach folks a lesson does not work.
Photo of yellow Coreopsis flower. Exists only because someone invested in preserving space for it to live.

Few fungi are as iconic as fly agaric, which forms symbiotic mycorrhizal relationships with the roots of birch, oak, and other trees across the northern hemisphere.

It has also been introduced and become invasive in some southern parts of the globe, pushing out native fungi.

Learning about Theophrastus, Father of Botany, this evening.

Here for plants, but now curious about his work titled “On Stones”.

Oh … huge block of unexpected free time. Trying to use it somewhat effectively vs. same old same old chores.

No over and out. No more social media rest of day. Also recommend. ☮️

I did go outside to cut aggressive invasive brush for five hours. It weird. It is difficult to build the motivation. But once outside there is no other place I want to be. 10/10 recommend. Tired? Go outside if it is safe. Go for a walk if possible.

Over and out.

I’ve not assessed the rock and stone situation.

So much wasted cabinet space for decades. Must make room for better things and better organization. Someday never arrives.

Years and years and years of Bon Appetit. A window on another time. Very hoity toity. I dropped pursuit of that life long ago. I prefer simple recipes, peasant food I guess. But that ads and articles are mildly entertaining now. Removing pages containing potentially interesting recipes.

What shocked me so far, was the initial resistance to the simple notion that damaged plants released chemicals other plants detected and responded to. This is not “intelligence” by usual definition. But was viewed as absurd by the scientific community. WTF? Seems literal no-brainer all perspectives.

I’m reading this book. It is interesting and thought-provoking so far.

Super important to not allow the the use of “intelligence” or “personality” to deter you. It appears ultimately about the history of research into plant communication. I’m on page 74.

I’m going to go read a book for a short time, then go outside. Later maybe look through a stack of Bon Appetit magazines from circa 1994. Or figure out why I collected the container of rocks I found.

Tell me to put the phone down if you notice evidence I’m looking at social media rest of today.

I have an idea for a very interesting project. Probably not original. Sadly, not the sort of project I become obsessed with. Too practical.

Word of the Day is ‘snerdle’ (19th century): to stay warm and still beneath the covers for as long as humanly possible.

I’ve learned much. Everyone should read at least one Wikipedia article — or maybe just one section — each day, document it, and log off rest of the day.

Potential rabbit hole … there is surely a story regarding the objects chosen for that room, that scene in the movie.

I don’t have the brain power to go after it. Does someone know where to find it?

Conservation largely driven by aesthetics?

Also, why does a hunting castle require a dungeon?

Also, why does a hunting retreat require more than a cabin?
