I love living in a 15 min city: Lancaster. Every day-to-day need (shops, library, supermarkets, bus and railway stations, medical centre, etc., etc.) is comfortably within a 15 min bus ride of my house, with buses every 30 min from dawn to dusk and beyond. Who could reasonably object to such cities?

I think this is exactly right. The principals of the fascist MAGA movement are too disorganised, unintelligent and incompetent to follow the script (Project 2025) required to install the American Reich. In this respect they are different from those involved in establishing the German Third Reich.

Amazing how many people fail to understand that private companies exist for one reason only: to make money, as much as possible. If they can get away with extortionate charges for a poor product and/or a poor service, so much the better.

I'm expecting US troops to show up any day now in my local Iceland

The Republicans will swing behind Trump when he invades and takes Greenland, turns it into the 51st State and renames it Trumpland

Nice gold frame it's been mounted in; Trump will especially appreciate that. Not sure about the "for defending prosperity" bit though; the only prosperity Trump defends is his own.

It took Brunel only 5 years to build the GWR from London to Bristol

If micro plastics are harmful to the human body it would have to be on account of their size. We already use a lot of plastics in repairs to the body seemingly causing no harm, e.g., acrylic bone cements, epoxy dental fillings, PEEK spinal cages, polyester arterial meshes, PE hip surfaces, etc.

Yes, appalling error of judgement on behalf of RS

Interesting how common decency improves across the political spectrum moving from right to left. Who would have expected that!

Wonder if Farage will bother to turn up in Parliament for this debate.

The current generation are right to want rid of Khomeni, but are too young to remember the last coup when the USA orchestrated the overthrow of Mosaddegh's government simply to get their hands on the oil. The secret police of the subsequent Shah's regime ruled on behalf only of the pro-West rich.

One channel of (black and white) TV with "Toddlers Truce" between 6 and 7 pm.

Farage with convicted fraudster, Flavio Briatore. No doubt picking up tips; birds of a feather and all that.

I believe tin mining is set to resume in Cornwall in 2028 since tin is now regarded worldwide as a "critical mineral". This could be accompanied in the UK by renewed mining at one of the world's largest tungsten deposits at the Hemerdon mine in South Devon, since tungsten too is a critical mineral.

But what about assisting others when there is no direct threat to the US, e.g., assisting Ukraine v Russia by supplying weapons?

Unfortunately, radon is inert like Johnson's brain

Worth bearing in mind that France relies on the US less than do other European countries for military supplies and therefore can afford to take a more gungho attitude in its dealings with the US over Greenland. In fact France is reported to run a trade surplus in military equipment with the US.

Even Cuba is better than the USA in several important respects: better (free) health care; better (free) education to graduate level and beyond; much greater level of literacy; and greater life expectancy.

Trump's desire to take over Greenland has nothing to do with defence since the USA has extensive defence infrastructure on Greenland already, nor with Russian and Chinese naval activity since that is concentrated around the Bering Strait. No, it's all about unfettered access to natural resources.

Like Johnson, a man seemingly with no principles, prepared to jump in whatever direction he thought brought him personal advantage
