Batteries tripled to 14,000 MW since 2022!

They charge during mid-day, when solar generation is at peak and wholesale electricity prices are very low.

They discharge significantly after the sun goes down.

They are already supplying up to 20% of California's electricity from 6pm-10pm. #energysky

I have my doubts. US auto industry is falling behind in the EV transition. EVs will be near 50% of global auto sales by 2030. The peak of oil burning cars was about 7 years ago. Now their decline will quicken.

BEVs are up 25.3% & PHEVs 31.6%.

Good morning with good news: China's wind & solar surged 29.4% to 1552 TWh in January-August 2025, compared to 1199 TWh in 2024.

W&S generated 22.5% of China's electricity January-August, up from 18.2% in 2024 and 9.7% in 2020.

Coal Nationalization

Trump Administration is effectively nationalizing some old coal plants to keep them running, even though their owners wanted to close them, and even though continuing to run them raises rates for consumers. See Michigan example.

India added 17.5 GW of solar & 2.6 GW of wind.

According to ERCOT’s Independent Market Monitor, adjusted for inflation, wholesale prices in 2024 were lower than 2020, which was the COVID year. To repeat, not only are prices not up 100% from 4-5 years ago, they are actually lower."

Trump 2017-2021: Coal fell from 30.3% to 19.1% & fell at fastest rate in 25 years.

Coal's fall began in George W. Bush years, falling from 51.1% to 48.4%.

Coal plunged from 51.7% in 2000 to 14.9% in 2024.

Why?

It cannot compete with wind, solar & gas!
