Father’s Day is usually a time to honor the dads. But I also want to take this moment to say how thankful I am to be one. The joy my son brings into my life is beyond words. I may not be perfect, but every day I strive to grow, and become a better father for my family.

The Filipino struggle did not end in 1986 and our identity as a nation is continuously shaped by the able citizens of today, which I am now a part of.

I now realize that we remember what happened on this day and it’s not just to celebrate the collective triumph over dictatorship. More importantly, it reminds us of our responsibility as citizens.

The amazing thing about the reach of social media is that now we don’t just rely on official publications to gain a narrative on what happened during the Marcos years and the People Power Revolution. We get to read and hear first-hand experiences of those who went through the struggle.
