Hmm, I learned in Dev Bio a long time ago that humans have un-differentiated tissues that will become either male or female genitals and genitourinary tracts until around 8 weeks, and they then take different paths depending in gene activation. Has something changed recently?

So what if there are a few non-human species that have a sex determination system that responds to environmental factors in such a way that some individuals change sex. They are not human. What's it have to do with humans?

Considering everyone is XX or XY is indeed uninformed. However you contention that sex chromosome variations are as common as redheads, twins and autism seems to be a bit of an exaggeration.

Don't know what your question was, assuming it has something to do with spectra. And I think I agree with you. As someone that spent over 40 years considering spectrum of light in order to people do fluorescence microsopy, that the sex spectrum is so void of numbers.

So was she actually asked explicitly about white supremacy? Like "do you condone white suprenacy".

I agree that this pretty simple test should be considered routine. In fact, with cost of sequencing coming down, it may not be too far in future that a full sequence is just done at birth.

While most physicians would probably agree that Castor was raised as a woman and identifies as a woman, they would also agree that Castor has a DSD, 5ARD, that affects males, and the majority of people with the DSD end up identifying as men, especially in western countries.
July 25, 2025 at 8:42 PM
This paper says nothing about what the medical establishment says about Castor, it is by a single author, and is essentially an opinion piece, that while mentioning Castor, it is about the topic of inclusion of people with DSDs in the women's category in sports.
July 25, 2025 at 8:39 PM
Current medical consensus in the west with regards to DSD is not to do anything unless medical necessary until puberty
July 20, 2025 at 6:57 PM
The article you cite is basically an opinion piece, not a medical consensus. The majority of people with 5ARD end up identifying as male.
July 20, 2025 at 6:54 PM
Castor has 5ARD. Classified as a male DSD. Look it up.
July 19, 2025 at 6:50 PM
I wasn't arguing about the treatment being potentially beneficial to the individual.
July 19, 2025 at 6:46 PM
Castor has a DSD that is classified as a male DSD
July 19, 2025 at 6:43 PM
Likely if Castor had been born and raised in a Western country with more equitable health care system, condition would have been uncovered at the start of puberty.
July 19, 2025 at 6:41 PM
Yeah, I know Castor has a DSD (intersex). That particular DSD is classified as a male DSD. Caused by a defective gene on an autosomal chromosome.

Well certainly you can change someone's appearance and some physiological function by administering hormones while at the same time blocking endogenous hormones. Maybe even do some surgery. Now have a pseudosex.
July 14, 2025 at 7:03 PM
And has testes also.
July 10, 2025 at 4:17 PM
I'll try that gravity gambit, be interesting to see the responses.

Sex is fundamentally a reproductive strategy, of which there are 2 categories. Characteristics of those categories have variation. But they don't define how much h ofa category
July 4, 2025 at 11:18 PM
This is indeed a fundamental misunderstanding of what sex fundamentally is, and why sex fundamentally is binary. What people these days blather about is sex characteristics.
July 4, 2025 at 11:12 PM
You're not going to find a peer reviewed paper with some new finding(s) indicating bimodal sex.
July 4, 2025 at 11:08 PM
Have noticed ed reconceptualion of sex in the last 15 or so years, but that seems to be largely driven by theoretical constructs that have nothing to do with biology.
July 4, 2025 at 11:01 PM
I remember the buzz at ASCB during the early and mid 1990s as SRY and SOX9 where identified and functionality started to be understood. Don't recall any reconceptualizatiom of sex.
July 4, 2025 at 10:57 PM
So couldn't any examination of the history of a topic be viewed that way?

My own observation is that they managed to trigger people on both more extreme poles of this issue. Which confirms my own take on the series of being rather even handed.
