What is living in (and on) alpine soils at 3100m in the European #Alps?

"Not too much"? Check out this sample.
A lot of critters (abundance) and also some larger larvae (Tipulidae) and some flying insects (biomass).

Five years after VAIA:

– Norway spruce dominates regeneration (67%), but only 26% of plots meet targets.
– Browsing affects 25% of seedlings, especially Rowan, Willow, and Silver fir.

Management should promote species diversity and control browsing.

❄️ "Glacier fleas", ice-dwelling springtails, show surprising diversity. #Prioritice ( #BiodivProtect) found 5 new species in the Alps & Apennines, with some widespread and others narrowly endemic, raising conservation concerns due to warming.
