Lychgate with a little pyramidal clock turret at Maentwrog.

Designed by Douglas & Fordham, 1897

the church itself, St Twrog’s, is down a slope & below the village, so hidden from view

Boldly carved early 20th century altar rail at St Michael’s, Burwell (Lincolnshire)

Just look at the size of those grapes!

Altar frontal was off the other day. Assume by Sedding too? Fairly recently restored I think (choir stalls too)

a fine thing to be seen at Christ Church, Cheylesmore - a modern tester! Every pulpit should ‘ave one (look naked if not)

A most elegant number, this. Bit like a water biscuit

(designed by AH Gardener & Partners, 1957, although those mini carvings are by John Skelton)

& clearly Nugent agreed, as he repeated the same thing elsewhere when there was no traffic problem whatsoever - e.g. Sutton Coldfield

does look good to be fair

Looks like this inside - main altar forward and lady chapel high up behind. Novel & successful: 5 stars I say!

Burnage, for comparison (seen in notably better weather!)

Interestingly Cachemaille-Day constructed it like this to mitigate traffic noise (at early example of that!). trams at that time, but they’ve been replaced by A34/Kingsway

Bold interwar job by CM Hadfield in Hillsborough, Sheffield

Sacred Heart (RC) - opened March 1936

looking at that sheer brick apse with minimal Deco detailing, can’t help thinking the architect must have known Cachemaille-Day’s seminal St Nicholas, Burnage (1930-2)? Many similarities

splendid isn’t he?

Here’s another Wilson otter - this time Coventry Council House (early c20)

A tad furtive, in comparison
