Wind turbines operate up north in the extreme cold. So that shouldn't be an issue. Plus they're only 600MW out of the 2700MW total.

The article noted the new utility scale battery storage helped balance the peak demand. More of this is needed.

Exactly

Good, hope it sells really well.

Big improvement from their earlier EVs

This is going to be an awesome car.
As the Ioniq 5N shows, if done really well, simulated gear shift and engine sounds can be fun to drive.

There are approx 35,000+ gas car fires in the US each year. It's so common the media usually doesn't even report it.
But if there's one EV fire...

Smart, this is going to be a huge industry in the coming yrs

Good article. Hawke seems to be a decent, grounded guy

Agreed

Such a fail. EVs are surging globally, especially in China the largest market in the world.
Mazda will not be competitive in most of the world soon.

Zeekr makes such nice vehicles, wish they'd come to Canada

As soon as the Dems win the Presidency, you know the GOP will pretend these yrs never happened and expect the Dems to again follow the norms.

The Republicans in Congress have completely given up their power and allowed Trump and his cult to run wild. It turns out the check and balances are not as strong as many hoped.
January 21, 2026 at 3:16 AM
The Founding Fathers intended most of the power of govt to reside with the ppl in Congress. They'd be horrified to see the current power of the Presidency.
Unfortunately they also didn't forsee a political party acting as a cult, and completely rolling over for the President.
Scary times
January 21, 2026 at 3:06 AM
What? The Dems are in the minority and have no power right now. The Republicans have completely rolled over and are letting DT get away with breaking the law and defying the Constitution.

No the main reason is Elon's big pay package includes a goal of 10M+ FSD subscribers. So he wants to get as many ppl to sign up as possible

I agree that EVs are better in every way except two:
- long road trip refueling/recharging (especially in the winter)
- intake/exhaust sound

As a car enthusiast, I really like my performance EV. But I do miss the thrilling sound of a high rev engine. It does give a sports car a lot of character

Toyota is finally bringing a good EV to the NA market

Tesla will be able to resume sending Chinese made Model 3s to Canada (which have been blocked by tariffs).
Question is, will BYD or Geely want to enter the market. It's not easy to do because it takes a lot of investment. They would likely start in limited regions such as BC and/or Quebec.
January 17, 2026 at 9:02 PM
Great to see, but a large amount of the 49k annual volume will be Tesla continuing to sell the Chinese made Model 3 which hasnt been on sale for a while due to tariffs
January 17, 2026 at 8:56 PM
The vehicles do not need to be $35k or less. But the hope is in a few yrs there will be more vehicles offered in that price range
January 17, 2026 at 8:54 PM
A stock car running a 8.6 sec quarter mile is pretty nuts.
Having cars this powerful on the street will likely end in some serious crashes and ppl hurt or killed.
