"The model's safety training may degrade," is like a quote straight out of Black Mirror. But it's not Black Mirror. It's OpenAI responding to @kashhill.bsky.social's story about a kid who died by suicide after spending months talking to ChatGPT about ending his life.

All of this is happening while Facebook and Instagram continue to block news in Canada.

But you can, seemingly, still run scam ads that use gen AI to create fake news reports.

And remember, the majority of Canadians still think they're getting news on Facebook.

Many of the scam posts feature generative AI videos of Carney, CBC anchors and Elon Musk. Some link to a fake version of the CBC website. All of them are about a scam get-rich-quick scheme.

The ads are very political. "Carney’s Major Announcement Shakes Canada!"

News is banned on Facebook in Canada. You can't read it, you can't watch it, you can't share it. There is no news on Facebook.

Despite this, Facebook is still the most popular platform for content about politics and current affairs in Canada.

A truly astonishing fact.

Despite Meta's news ban, a huge number of Canadians still think they are getting news from Facebook and Instagram.

57 per cent of Canadians use Facebook as a source of politics and current affairs content, despite news being blocked on the platform.

In Not San Francisco, where I'm based, this argument is laughable.

What Kevin Roose is describing here is a bubble, and he's stuck right in the middle of it.

A 200% tariff on European wine, huh?!

The town of Dalhousie in New Brunswick has been torn apart by a $300-million discovery.

There have been death threats and assaults. Keyboard warriors have taken to the streets in angry protest. Families have been divided, friendships ruined.

It's nuts.

New: U.S. border officers are now making more seizures of eggs than fentanyl.

Since October, officers have made 3,768 seizures of bird and poultry-related products, compared to 352 fentanyl seizures.

U.S. egg hunters are now a common sight at border grocery stores.

While The New York Times is busy publishing deeply offensive thought experiments about Trump's invasion of Canada, @joannasmith.bsky.social asks an actually important question...

Are Americans even listening to Canada's dire tariff warnings?

Sorry, I clicked. The argument appears to be that it's totally cool to do really bad things now because people did really bad things in the past? Genius!

Scoop: In a leaked internal message, Shopify's general counsel said risk of fraud, not Nazi swastika, was the reason for taking down Kanye West's online store.

"This wasn't real commerce - it was a stunt, not a good faith attempt to make money," the message reads.

Canada's auto sector is going to be hit incredibly hard by Trump's tariffs. Same for chemicals, machinery for agriculture, construction, mining and metals.

The trade to GDP ratio shows exactly how reliant key Canadian industries are on trade. It's not pretty.

Donald Trump has reiterated he will hit Canada and Mexico with 25% tariffs on Saturday because, he says, of fentanyl.

How much fentanyl was seized at the US-Canada border last year? Just 43 pounds.

This story has it all.

Covid conspiracies! Cheesy music! (Twin) crypto bros! Tim Draper! And, weirdly, a bitcoin-powered community that's taking shape in rural Quebec. Complete with an actual house, with actual people living in it, that is heated by bitcoin mining rigs.

Welcome to Liberty City.
