Let’s #DitchDST and #SaveStandardTime! 👉 @savestandard.bsky.social
Mike is right. Here’s a graph. Mean solar time keeps within a quarter hour of apparent solar time all year (and greatest divergence is not during northern hemisphere’s summer). Standard Time is designed to keep within a half hour of mean solar time. DST adds an hour of misalignment by design.

No, the fact that sunrise/set vary so much every day is why we can’t set clocks to them. Clocks are instead set to midday (when the sun crosses the meridian), which is much more regular.

Ideally everywhere. That’s how Standard Time is designed.

Permanent DST would put sunrise in WA past 8am (when most work/school begins) for 3–4 months every year. Millions would suffer negative consequences to mental health, physical health, and safety. It was a deadly failure in 1974. This is not an “edge case”.

No, time is a measurement of the natural world. DST is a false clock.

Clocks are tools for timekeeping and for navigation. Longitude determines time, and therefore time can reveal longitude.

When we start work/school at 8am Daylight Saving Time, we’re actually starting at 7am Standard Time. DST is a hidden mandate to wake earlier (and to sleep less).

Most Americans wake by 6:30am to start work or school by 8am. All humans need morning sunlight most. Permanent DST failed in California when last tried. 8:23am sunrise is far too late for health, safety, education, and productivity.

You can turn on every light in your house at darkest midnight, your brain will still feel sleepy, and your risks of accident and chronic illness will still be higher.

Time is measurement of nature, to which our circadian rhythms are genetically entrained.

Big Golf is why DST was created, and Big Golf is why DST is so difficult to abolish. Please tell lawmakers to prioritize health over golf, thanks!

The point of Standard Time is to give a fair measurement of the sun that’s practical at a global scale for businesses and individuals to set schedules.

The point of Daylight Saving Time is to misrepresent the sun to force earlier waking and boost shopping (which also deprives sleep).

Standard Time is closer to solar time, to which our bodies are naturally entrained. DST is completely misaligned.
December 19, 2025 at 11:17 PM
Permanent DST would mean darkness past 9am in WA. Most Americans start work/school by 8am.
December 19, 2025 at 11:15 PM
Yes! DST is a government mandate to separate clocks completely from the sun. Permanent Standard Time is the more natural and honest clock!

With travel, your light environment changes. With DST, it does not.
December 19, 2025 at 11:11 PM
Permanent DST is a population-wide experiment of drowsy driving in the dark.

If you wouldn’t choose to start your day earlier without DST, then really don’t want DST at all.

Daylight Saving Time was created to profit after-work shopping and golfing. The ideas of saving energy or helping farmers were misdirections invented by lobbyists. #DitchDST
