The word you're looking for is "destroyed", not hidden. The early church was notorious for destorying texts they deemed heretical, and mass producing those in the orthodoxy. It's why so few of the first remain, why we have so many of the latter.

Character motiviation. All characters require it, even side characters. The motivation drives the action, and the actrion drives the story. If the motiviation is believeable and relateable, you have the foundation of a good story.
